Health and Safety policy
Movers Camden Health and Safety Policy
This Health and Safety Policy sets out how Movers Camden manages the safety and wellbeing of our teams, clients and members of the public during all removal and relocation activities. Our work involves lifting, carrying, driving and operating equipment in homes, offices and commercial premises, and we are committed to completing every move safely, efficiently and responsibly.
The policy applies to all employees, contractors and temporary workers engaged by Movers Camden, across every type of move, including residential, office and commercial removals, packing, loading, transport and storage operations.
Our Health and Safety Commitment
Movers Camden is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. We aim to prevent accidents, work-related injuries and ill health by identifying hazards, managing risks and promoting safe behaviour at all times.
We will provide appropriate training, supervision and equipment to ensure that our teams can carry out their duties safely and professionally. We also expect our staff and contractors to take reasonable care of their own safety, the safety of colleagues and the safety of our customers and the public.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Movers Camden has overall responsibility for the effective implementation of this Health and Safety Policy. This includes:
Ensuring that health and safety is treated as a core element of business planning and decision-making
Allocating appropriate resources for training, equipment, vehicle safety and risk management
Reviewing and updating health and safety procedures in line with current best practice for removal companies
Investigating significant incidents or near misses and implementing corrective actions
Ensuring that all staff understand their responsibilities and are encouraged to report hazards or concerns
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee and contractor working with Movers Camden has an important role in maintaining a safe working environment. All staff are expected to:
Follow company safety procedures and instructions at all times
Use tools, vehicles and lifting equipment only as trained and intended
Report accidents, injuries, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment where required
Work carefully in clients properties to avoid damage, trip hazards and other risks
Respect local parking and access rules to minimise risk to pedestrians and other road users
Risk Assessment and Planning
Before undertaking any removal or relocation job, Movers Camden assesses the potential risks associated with the premises, access routes, items to be moved and local conditions. This may include:
Assessing stairways, corridors, lifts, doorways and external access for safe carrying and manoeuvring
Considering the weight, size and fragility of furniture, appliances and specialist items
Identifying potential trip or slip hazards such as loose flooring, wet surfaces or uneven pathways
Planning safe loading and unloading areas for vehicles
Reviewing any site specific instructions provided by property managers or occupiers
Where a job presents unusual or higher risks, additional controls will be planned before work starts, such as extra staff, specialised equipment or revised access routes.
Manual Handling and Lifting
Manual handling is central to removals work, and safe lifting practices are essential to prevent injury. Movers Camden ensures that staff receive training on correct lifting techniques and the use of handling equipment. Our approach includes:
Assessing loads before lifting and avoiding unnecessary manual handling
Using trolleys, dollies, straps and lifting aids where appropriate
Team lifting for heavy, awkward or bulky items
Keeping walkways clear to allow safe carrying and turning
Refusing to move items that cannot be handled safely with available staff and equipment
Use of Vehicles and Driving Safety
Our vehicles are a key part of our service and must be operated safely at all times. Movers Camden ensures that all drivers are competent and authorised, and that vehicles are maintained in roadworthy condition. Our driving safety measures include:
Carrying out routine checks of brakes, lights, tyres and loading equipment
Loading vehicles evenly and securely to prevent shifting during transit
Parking and unloading in a way that minimises risk to pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers
Respecting speed limits, parking restrictions and access rules for residential and commercial areas
Avoiding unnecessary reversing and using a guide where visibility is limited
Working in Client Premises
We recognise our responsibility to protect our clients, their property and anyone present on site while we are working. Movers Camden staff will:
Identify and communicate potential hazards upon arrival, such as low ceilings, fragile surfaces or tight stairwells
Keep exits, hallways and access routes clear wherever reasonably possible
Use floor coverings and protective materials where appropriate to reduce slip and damage risks
Handle items with care to avoid damage to property, fixtures and fittings
Work considerately to minimise disruption to neighbours, other occupants and local businesses
Equipment, Tools and Personal Protective Equipment
Movers Camden provides suitable equipment, tools and where necessary personal protective equipment to support safe operations. All equipment must be checked regularly and used only as intended. Staff are required to:
Inspect equipment before use and remove damaged items from service
Use gloves, safety footwear or other protective items where tasks require it
Store equipment neatly in vehicles and on site to prevent trip hazards
Report any defects or concerns so that remedial action can be taken promptly
Training, Communication and Consultation
We believe that good communication is essential to strong safety performance. Movers Camden provides induction and ongoing training on relevant health and safety topics, including manual handling, vehicle safety, safe loading and unloading, and incident reporting.
Employees are encouraged to raise suggestions for improving safety practices and to report any concerns without hesitation. We review feedback regularly and update our procedures where appropriate.
Accident and Incident Reporting
All accidents, injuries, incidents and near misses that occur during removal operations must be reported as soon as possible to a supervisor or manager. Movers Camden records and investigates these events to identify causes and implement improvements. Our aim is not to assign blame, but to learn from each incident and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective and suitable for the nature of our removal services and operating areas. Amendments may be made following changes in legislation, industry guidance, business operations or after significant incidents. All staff will be informed of any updates and are expected to familiarise themselves with the latest version.
By working together and following this policy, Movers Camden aims to deliver a professional removals service that protects our teams, our clients and the wider community on every move we undertake.
